Figure 3. Powervault 120T DLT1 Setup
The PowerVault 120T DLT1 is compatible with all operating systems and environments supporting the SCSI interface, requiring either direct support of the operating system or a suitable application program to take advantage of its features. Hosting environments not directly supporting SCSI interfaces, like most personal computers, require the addition of a SCSI Host Adapter board.
The PowerVault 120T DLT1 also offers the capability of operating in either Random-Access or Sequential-Access modes. In Random-Access mode, the application software controls cartridge management. In Sequential-Mode, the PowerVault 120T DLT1 operating firmware predefines cartridge management. Refer to Troubleshooting and Diagnostics for a detailed description of Sequential-Mode operation.

Table 2. Definitions for Operator's Panel Indicators
Indicators | Description |
---|---|
Power LED (Green) | Illuminates when the power is on. |
Activity LED (Amber) | A blinking light indicates two types of activity: robotics and drive. A slow blinking interval indicates robotic activity and a fast interval indicates drive activity. |
Alarm LED (Red) | Illuminates when an error has occurred. |
LCD | 1-line by 10-character Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) provides information about drive status, operational messages, and error messages. |

Table 3. Definitions for LCD Indicators
Indicators | Description |
---|---|
LdR REAdY | The normal on-line message, LdR REAdY, is displayed on Line 1, as do on-line, off-line, and error messages. |
DC | The upper left field indicates data compression is selected on the drive. |
WP | The middle left field indicates a write-protected data cartridge is loaded into the drive. |
CT | The lower left field indicates the drive head needs to be cleaned. |
The large field in the center of the display normally indicates the number of the cartridge currently loaded in the drive. Whenever an error occurs an E will appear in this field and the error message will appear on line 1. | |
The Activity Bars on the right side
of the display, in conjunction with the Activity LED, indicate robotic
and drive activity.
|
|
The seven numeric fields at the bottom of the display indicate the current cartridge inventory. Each numeric field appears when a cartridge is present in the appropriate storage slot. |

Figure 8. DLTtape IV Data Cartridge
Use the write protect switch to determine when cartridges are write protected or write enabled. The write protected option allows data on the tape to be read, but does not allow the data to be altered or erased. Write enabled allows new information to be added to the cartridge and data deletion.
If the switch is moved all the way to the left, the cartridge is write protected and the drive cannot write to, or erase data from, the cartridge. The small orange rectangle is visible when the cartridge is write protected. Additionally, an arrow, beneath the orange rectangle and above the two lines on the switch, indicates the data is read-only.
If the switch is moved all the way to the right, the cartridge is write enabled. The drive can write data to or erase data from the cartridge. The orange rectangle disappears when the cartridge is write enabled.
The arrow to the right of the write protect switch
indicates moving the switch to the right allows writing data to the cartridge.
Follow the instructions included within this document
to connect the PowerVault 120T DLT1 to the host computer.
